Muay Thai camp, retreat, or gym drop-in: which one is for you?

Updated October 19, 2026

The short answer

A drop-in means you pay per session at a gym (about 350 to 600 THB) and plan everything else yourself. A camp is a gym where you train once or twice a day for weeks or months, often with rooms on site. A retreat is a planned trip: training, hotel, food, transport, and activities in one price, with a group. Choose by how much you want to plan yourself.

Who each one suits

  • Drop-in: you are in Bangkok anyway and want to try a few sessions.
  • Camp: you have a month or more, you want to train twice a day, and you are happy to sort out the rest.
  • Retreat: you have about two weeks, you want it all planned, and you want to train with a group.

What to check before you pay

  • Are beginners in the same class as fighters? Ask how the gym handles mixed levels.
  • Is gear included, or do you rent gloves and shin guards?
  • How far is the gym from where you sleep? In Bangkok traffic, this matters every day.
  • What is the refund or transfer policy?

Questions

Is a Muay Thai retreat worth it?

If your time is short and you do not want to plan, yes. You pay for the planning, the group, and the experiences around the training, not only the sessions.

How much is a Muay Thai session in Bangkok?

A drop-in session is often about 350 to 600 THB. Packages of 10 sessions cost less per session.
