How to choose a gym

  • Location first. Bangkok traffic is slow. A gym 10 minutes from your hotel on foot or by Skytrain beats a better gym an hour away.
  • Beginner-friendly or fighter gym. Beginner-friendly gyms run structured group sessions in English. Fighter gyms train their Thai fighters, and you join in with less structure.
  • Session times. Many gyms train twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon. Check the times before you go.
  • Try one session first. Pay for a drop-in before you buy a 10-session pass or a monthly package.
  • Ask about pad rounds. The time you spend with a trainer on the pads is where you learn most. Ask how many rounds you get.

What a session costs

Among the gyms that publish a price, one drop-in session costs 400 to 980 THB (about $12 to $29). Studios in central Sukhumvit cost the most. Packages of 10 sessions or a month cost less per session. Private lessons cost more.

Bring some cash in Thai baht. Not every gym takes cards. Each gym on the map links to its own page, where you can check prices.

Where our retreat trains

Our retreat trains at Migaku, on Sukhumvit Soi 24, right next door to our 5-star hotel and 3 minutes from BTS Phrom Phong. You train 10 sessions with Thai trainers, without a taxi or a commute. See the retreat.

Is this list complete?

No. Bangkok has many small neighborhood camps with no website. We list only gyms that are open, inside Bangkok, and whose location we could check to about 200 meters. Gyms move and close, so check the gym's page before you go. See a mistake or a gym we missed? Email hello@jabsterretreats.com.
